According to Latin America’s University Web Ranking (Webometrics) for 2018, the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP) is considered to be the best in the country and number 37 in the region.
Webometrics is the largest academic ranking in the world, that evaluates higher education institutes in their performance, presence, and impact. They publish a list twice a year indicating which are the best universities in the world.
PUCP managed to make it to the top 37 best universities in Latin America, and the best one in Peru at this moment. It is considered by Webometrics as the best institute for its performance, presence and impact, only surpassed in excellence by the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, informed El Comercio.
This ranking is created with information the Lab Cibermetría del Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas in Spain gathers. They examine universities that have an independent web page, and they evaluate: presence (how many times the university’s URL comes up in online search results); impact (how many external links the web domain receives); openness (open access rich files such as PDFs, PS, DOC, and PPT, as well as articles in Google Scholar); and excellence (quality scientific production).
The Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú said to El Comercio that the appearance in the first position in Peru’s ranking proves the existence of an outstanding performance in electronic publications and good scientific communication online practices.
The university also believes that the ranking’s purpose is to show an updated view about the universities’ online performance, that also allows them to evaluate their policies and practices to gain higher international visibility.
