Jaime Bayly among 25 most influential gays in Spain

Peruvian TV talk show host, writer and journalist Jaime Bayly is gaining worldwide recognition.

In Spain’s first “Pink List” of the 25 most influential male homosexuals published recently in the "El Mundo" newspaper, Bayly was considered as one of the top 25.

Topping the list as the one who wields the most power is Judge Fernando Grande Marlaska, who in September will probably become a member of Spain’s General Judicial Power Council.

The list contains some very well known names internationally, representing various sectors like politics, sports, arts, and business, but most names are perhaps better known within Spain. According to the newspaper, these are personalities for whom 'the telling of the truth is more important than the scandal'.

Bayly, ranked 22 on the chart, is host of the Peruvian talk show "El Francotirador" (The Sharpshooter) and has written many books, among them "Y de repente, un ángel" (2005), one of the "Premia Planeta" finalists last year. He recently divorced the mother of his 2 daughters and is now having a relationship with Argentinean writer Luis Corbacho with whom he lives in Miami. His trademark is wearing a black suit with blue tie.

Bayly once stated:
"Your sexuality defines you. It is not a trivial issue. If you decide not to [talk about it], you are conceding a victory to the people who are rallying against your own self. If you stay silent, it is out of fear. Fear of not selling as many records as you want to sell, or fear of public disapproval. I am against that kind of calculated decision. That behavior is wrong. I would rather sell less books and live a true life."

In third position is film director Pedro Almodóvar, sixth place is occupied by writer Alvaro Pombo and ninth goes to the director of the film “Mar adentro" (The Sea Inside), Alexander Amenábar.

In twelfth position is writer Juan Goytisolo and in sixteenth Venezuelan scriptwriter and showman Boris Izaguirre, who once kissed Bayly on his show "Crónicas marcianas".
