Peruvian gourmet food to be promoted in US fair

Andina

Peru's Export and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) will promote the country's gourmet food exportable offer at the International Fair Summer Fancy Food Show, to be held from June 28th to 30th in New York (United States).

In this event, PromPeru will participate along with 13 national agro-export companies, which have long prepared for this fair.

Peru’s Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) which have authorized PromPeru to attend this event, explained that Peru's participation is highly important since the Fancy Food Show is one of the most important fairs specialized in gourmet food.

The fair gathers restaurants, supermarkets and big stores chains, representing a great business opportunity for the participating Peruvian companies.

Nothing too 'fancy' about guniea pig and cow intestines.  How about some chicken head soup or bbq cow hearts.  Blech.

Just wait until the New Yorkers find out what's really on the menu.

David you obviously do not understand that Peruvian food has been here in the USA for such a long time. Many of my friends love Peruvian food. Instead of being rude, understand that everyone has different likes and dislikes. Also do not be so ingorant in saying that Peruvian food is guniea pig and cow intestines. Many natives in the country might prefer that, but it is no longer common to eat guniea pig, as for cow intestines, sorry you must be getting Mexican food confused with delicious Peruvian food. God bless.

they'll do the same thing they do when they learn how the pigs, cows and chickens they eat are raised, NOTHING!!. Just keep on eating...
They're used to eating garbage anyway.

Jacqueline, I understand perfectly well that Peru is unable to support its citizenry and Peruvians for decades have had to leave their poverty stricken country for the United States, and brought the food with them.

However, yes guinea pig, or cuy is still big in PE, as is cau cau, which is made from the digestive system of cattle, as is anticuchos, or cow hearts.  Go to any menu joint in Lima, you'll find chicken heads and probably feet floating in your soup.

And jcwong, don't pretend to be condescending to me.  NY is known for some of the best food in the world, not Lima.  I'm sitting in your 'beautiful' Lima right now, sucking in noxious fumes from the most polluted city in the western hemisphere, looking out the window at the usual drab buildings and gray sky.  Car alarms going off in the distance...how lovely.

The best restaurants in Lima, when food quality, value, variety, and service are all considered, are US chains like Longhorn Steakhouse and Chili's. Cleaner, too, since they seem to use US health standards which are stricter than PE.  You can always count on a good meal at a fair price and consistency of food and service. There are a couple of decent PE steakhouses down here, too.

Other than those, most restaurants in PE are independently owned.  These independent restaurants are either way overpriced if they use semi decent ingredients or are cheap and use junk for their ingredients.  And likely there will be a chicken head in the soup.

David,
Your comment made me laugh.
I can't tell that you have never worked for a restaurant in the U.S. I am not going to go into details but they aren't as clean as you think they're. I worked for Chili and few more major "chain" restaurants like Mc Donald's and their kitchens are filthy, I have seen roches, rats, flyes and much more. The U.S may have standards but it doesn't mean that are being complied by the restaurant owners. Luckily, I don't work in those place any more...

Besides, what is wrong with the cow heart or intestines? I like them..if you don't like them..well, don't eat them..you got the choice. I'm sure there are a lot people who like that stuff....btw, do you know what it is in the hot dogs and bologne sandwich that american people eat almost on daily basis?

I'm not pretending!!...what do you know about ny anyway? you sound more like midwest material...illinois or montana or one of those remote places....maybe a southerner?

you're the most ignorant us citizen (sorry 'american") I've ever come across, you people speak only 1 language and usually badly and you go around the world patronizing everything in your sanctimonious protestant ways, why don't you go back to your paradise? what are you in jail? for drugs? that's it! isn't it? you're stuck!!!!!!

you're so pathetic i just don't know what else to say...

mochika, the back kitchen of a PE restaurant is 10 times worse.  I've seen several.  Many have inadequate refrigeration and the staff wouldn't have the first clue about the most basic sanitation...washing dishes and taking out the trash, then preparing ceviche.  Cutting raw meat and then rinsing the wooden cutting board and using it to cut lettuce.  It's nauseating.   The health department down here is a joke.

jcwong,  in Lima I'm practically worshiped as a foreigner, which is really funny.  It's actually a status symbol down here.  Nobody shares your sentiment, especially those that appreciate my hard earned American dollars being thrown around.  Yes, although you might hate to admit it, the dollar is worshiped in Peru, as are Americans.  That said, compared to Lima, any part of the US is paradise, including Illinois, Montana, or the South.  Anywhere.  I could happily leave this miserable burg and never look back or even give it a second thought.  However, family obligations call for three months a year in Lima.

Oh, and English is the world language now, get used to it.  I go to Japan on occasion for business.  Conducted in English.  I buy a new car in Peru, all the buttons and knobs are in English.  There's no reason to learn more than one language, heck just look around Lima, everyone here is trying to learn English.  Not Brit English, either.  They want the more important and relevant U.S. version.

FYI, I know NYC very well, having lived on the Upper East Side for six years.  That's a real city, not this unsophisticated blue collar third world pit.

"snobby," you might be an American, but I'm an American that's been among these people down here for the past 20 some odd years.  Spend a good chunk of your life in Peru and then come back and tell me something.  Until then mind your own business.

David,
As a US born citizen I'm so embarassed by you remarks and behavior. All your remarks are based on ignorance. As for the American dollar, yes it might be seen highly there, as it is seen highly everywhere else. First inform yourself before you go on putting down a beautiful country. It might have its goods and bads, just like any other country. You say you are there for family obligations??? What kind? Why dont you take your family obligations elsewhere? since you hate Peru so much. People that are filled with anger and hatred only have mean and evil things to say. You need God in your life.

As for the US, our country also has its goods and bads. You may think you have a status symbol in Peru, but you are wrong. The Peruvians are filled with love and respect. You are getting treated with love and respect but are confusing that with having a staus symbol there. David learn more respect and manners. Maybe many there have not had a privileged to grow up like you in the US, so instead of acting like a evil, ignorant, and ill mannered person try to be a person that they can look up to. While you are there try to do good instead of bad. Hatred only brings bad not good. You seem so empty hearted, Why?? Why so much hatred for Peru?? Have you had a bad experience? Just want to get to the root of the problem. Living life like that, will only get you sick and stressed out. Try to love for a change. God bless. Remember, God is the only one who knows what you are really feeling and thinking. You may think it is alright to act the way you act but in the long run it all comes back to you. Once again God bless.
