Almost half of the adolescents who have requested a formal authorization to work in Peru (47%) are doing so to pay for their own studies.

This authorization is issued by the Ministry of Labor and Employment Promotion (MTPE), according to Gestión. They also added that 25% of them need to work for economic reasons and 11% seek to help their family.

“The number of these authorizations has shown a constant decrease in recent years, which could be due to a sub-registration of these permits, due to ignorance of the procedure, or to the increase of informality in this segment of the population, according to the Ministry”, Gestión wrote.

Although the main motivation of the adolescents to obtain a job is the studies, in the majority of the cases they do not manage to carry out both activities simultaneously, since 64% of these minors were not studying.
