71% Of Respondent Peruvians Believe That Preventive Detention Is Used Appropriately

71% of the Peruvian population considers that preventive detention in Peru is used appropriately, compared to 23% who consider it an excess, according to the latest national survey of El Comercio-Ipsos.

“Among young people between 18 and 24 years old, there is the highest percentage (51%) of those who agree to preventive detention; among those between 25 and 39 years of age, 36% support this measure and 41% of those who are over 40 do so as well”, Andina News Agency explained.
In addition, 41% of the population believes that preventive detention is the appropriate measure in investigations for non-violent crimes such as corruption, fraud, among others, even when the culpability of the investigated has not been determined.
34% consider that the appropriate measure is the impediment of leaving the country, 17% the home prison with an electronic shackle, 4% believe that they should continue at liberty with an economic guarantee bond and 4% dis not say.
