To Celebrate World Tourism Day, the Geological, Mining and Metallurgical Institute (Ingemmet) suggests travelers visit Peru’s geological attractions.
The engineers Bilberto Zavala and Danitza Churata of the Direction of Environmental Geology in Ingemmet suggest these special tourist destinations.
Some of these attractions include volcanic plateaus, rocks more than 400 million years old, volcano valleys and rock forests. These include: the Andagua Volcano Valley in Arequipa; the Marcahuasi volcanic plateau in San Pedro; the Paracas National Reserve; the National Rock Forest Sanctuary in Huayllay; the Colca Canyon; the Tinajani Canyon; and the Nor Yauyos Cochas Reserve.
“Peru has a varied geological heritage that makes it possible to develop geotourism, a recreational activity that refers to sustainable tourism, where the geological heritage, geodiversity and biodiversity of a given territory are highlighted,” states El Comercio.
