Heart diseases have become the first cause of death of Peruvians within the adult population. Dr. Miguel Reyes, a cardiologist at the Anglo American Clinic, cited by Publímetro, said that this type of disease can be prevented.
“These heart diseases affect to date 16% of the population above 20 years old”, Publímetro wrote, adding that more than 2,000 Peruvians die annually due to some type of heart failure.
The following are the three most common heart diseases Peruvians suffer from:
1. Arrhythmias:
Arrhythmia is known as any alteration of the heart rhythm that occurs, either due to any change in its characteristics or due to inadequate variations in frequency.
2. Heart failure:
Heart failure occurs when the heart muscle is injured and does not pump blood with the necessary force. Certain conditions, such as hypertension, smoking, diabetes and / or high cholesterol that cause the arteries of the heart to become clogged (coronary artery disease), progressively leave the heart too weak or stiff to fill and pump blood effectively.
3. Myocardial Infarction:
Myocardial Infarction is a type of heart disease due to blockage of the arteries of the heart (coronary arteriosclerosis). It occurs due to the accumulation of cholesterol plaques, fats and inflammatory cells in the walls of these arteries, causing the heart not to receive enough blood.
