The President of Ecuador, Lenin Moreno, said to the press that he will launch a plan to host, alongside Peru and Colombia, the FIFA 2030 soccer World Cup.
“The proposal faces competition from another South American candidacy comprising Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Chile”, as you can read in Xinhua News.
Moreno said that he wishes to make “Ecuador’s dream come true” by having the country be one of the hosts of this tournament.
So far, neither the President of Colombia or the President of Peru have commented on the proposal.
“Argentina and Uruguay originally announced that they would vie for the 2030 World Cup more than two years ago. Paraguay joined the bid in October 2017 before Chile was officially added to the candidacy in March this year”, the aforementioned website said.
Other countries that have shown interest in hosting the 2030 World Cup are China, Britain and Ireland and a group comprising Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia.
