The two-day event in Miraflores aims to provide a solar heating system and more for a remote community.
A two-day gastronomy festival kicks off this weekend at the Manuel Bonilla stadium in Miraflores, Lima, with the intention to sustainably support impoverished families of the remote Tantamaco community in Puno. Situated at 4,800 m.a.s.l., Tantamaco is home to some 400 families who live in extreme poverty and fall vulnerable to the harsh climate.
From frigid temperatures to droughts, the raucous climate in Puno, located in southern Peru, often poses a threat to the agricultural production which many families rely on as a means of income.
With a S/.10 entrance fee that goes towards an integral approach to support the community, “Sabores y Culturas del Mundo” (Flavors and Cultures of the World) has been organized in part by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Municipality of Miraflores and Cáritas del Perú.
“This event seeks to raise funds to build a communal house, as well as to install a solar heating system for the benefit of the productive activities of the population,” says Irma Ríos de Popolizio, president of the Volunteers of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Held this October 5 and 6, the gastronomic event will gather 100 food vendors offering typical Peruvian food as well as cuisine from 20 international countries including Italy, China, Brazil, India, Russia and many more. As well, the family-friendly event will include performances from folkloric dancers, artisan goods, and a kids’ zone.
