The manager of Anti-Drug Programs and Law Enforcement in the United States Embassy in Peru, David Rodríguez, believes that Peru is a world example in addiction treatments, especially in vulnerable populations.

“We are here to learn from Peru everything that has been achieved in the reduction of the demand for drugs and in the specialized curricula (of attention) implemented with a gender approach in vulnerable populations, adolescent girls and LGTBI population (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex people),”Rodríguez said during his visit to the Center for Community Mental Health (CSMC) of the Victoria district, according to Andina News Agency.

This official traveled to Peru to participate in the International Session on Drug Demand Reduction in Lima and learn about the application of the GROW project (Guiding the Recovery of Women) with representatives from other continents.

“This initiative is financed by the United States Embassy in Peru and implemented by CARE Peru in partnership with the Ministry of Health and the National Commission for Development and Life without Drugs (DEVIDA)”, Andina said, adding that Peru is the first country that has completed the ten GROW manuals in the world.

The GROW project strengthens the highly specialized technical skills of the mental health staff of the Ministry of Health, in order to increase the supply of services for women and adolescents who suffer from substance abuse disorders such as drugs.
