According to numbers from the National Institute of Neoplastic Diseases In Peru (INEN), the country could have an increase by 30% in mortality from cancer if there are no substantial plans to fight the disease.

The chief of INEN, Eduardo Payet said that it is necessary to take action to avoid having more deaths caused by cancer and a combined work from the society and the State is needed.

El Comercio said that every year, cancer causes 8.2 million deaths in the world and in Peru more than 33,000 people die because of it yearly.

Also, 32.5 million people are living with this disease in the world and 14 million find out every year that they have it.

“It is estimated that in the next 50 years some 4.3 million Peruvians will have had cancer”, El Comercio wrote.
