Catalina Zariquiey from Máncora, Peru, was crowned at just 10 years old as the best surfer in the Sub 10 category.

“The competition was held last May 19 with 40 participants from different parts of the world”, La República said. “The Peruvian girl reached the grand final with solid participation after facing waves of almost two meters high at the Itamambuca beach in Sao Paulo”, they continued.

During the competition, Catalina had problems with her board which led her to be rescued to avoid complications due to weather conditions, but she then returned to continue competing with her board fixed.

“With only 10 years you showed me that you are a talented warrior”, said Julio Zariquey, Catalina’s’ father, on social networks after the triumph of his young winner, according to La República.
