“There are no legal foundations or mechanisms of international judicial cooperation that allow the Lava Jato commission to send questions to Jorge Barata to answer them in the interrogation to take place on February 27 and 28”, prosecutor sources from Peru and Brazil told El Comercio.

They also explained that since the commission is not part of the investigation, they can’t send their own questions to Odebrecht’s Ex-President in Peru, Jorge Barata.
“Any international judicial cooperation mechanism will take place through the prosecutor’s offices of Peru and Brazil”, El Comercio explained.
This information came out after congressman Mauricio Mulder from APRA said that he wished to send a series of questions to Barata, through the prosecution, taking advantage that he will be declaring soon.

The Peruvian prosecution explained that the only way Odebrecht’s Ex-President can respond to the questions from the congressmen is if Jorge Barata decides to receive them on a coordinated date between them.

President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski will also be interrogated soon regarding the Odebrecht scandal. His turn will be after Barata in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
“If Kuczynski does not convince the Lava Jato commission and if what is leaked to the press of the interrogation to Barata compromises him, the motion of censorship would be forceful and would receive the support of other groups,” said La República earlier this week, regarding the motion of presidential vacancy some parties in Congress have been discussing.
