César Villanueva, head of the Cabinet of Ministers in Peru, ratified the government’s commitment to an educational reform.
El Peruano informed that at a national speech, Villanueva said that the goal is to reach satisfactory levels in reading comprehension and in mathematics.
“Our government is firmly committed to an educational reform. We have to recover lost time and step on the gas,” Villanueva emphasized. In that regard, he assured that in the next three years every effort will be made to guarantee that children and young people receive a quality education.
The head of the Ministry Cabinet also commented on the Rural Educational Networks (Redes Educativas Rurales) that will reduce gaps in education and also improve the reading comprehension and mathematics abilities in high school.
“The goal for 2021 is that more than 15% of the students in the second year of high school and 25% of the fourth year of high school in rural areas obtain a satisfactory level in reading comprehension”, he said according to El Peruano.
In order to achieve these goals, Villanueva confirmed that the government will continue to strengthen the public teaching career.
In addition, an investment of 65 million Soles in 22 regions and in 400 educational institutions will be made to improve access to internet and technology.
Finally, Villanueva assured that another one of the priorities of the government is to protect women and children from all types of violence. For this goal, there will be 225 Women Emergency Centers, with care protocols, and that will work in police stations across the country.
