Farmers Gave Away Vegetables in Arequipa(VIDEO)

The give away was in protest to the fall in the prices of vegetables.

A group of farmers from Pampa de Majes and Tambo Valley went to the Arms Square from Arequipa in order to give away potatoes, onions, tomatoes, and pumpkins. It is estimated that at least, two tons of food were delivered.

According to the farmers, this is a measure of protest against the Government in the face of low food prices.

Farmers have decided not to harvest several hectares since they find it more expensive to do so than to lose the investment in their production.

They demand a fast intervention from the Government in their favor because they are at a disadvantage against unfair competition from imported food and producers whose costs are subsidized by their origin governments.

The prices of potatoes, tomatoes, pumpkins and onions on the farm range from 10 to 20 cents, a ridiculous cost after more than six months of work, constantly waiting and investing.

Hundreds of people came to the Arms Square with bags and all kinds of items to collect these products that were being delivered.

Do you think this is a good way to protest?
