Nutritionist Jimena Del Pozo said that guinea pig meat has great nutritional value and benefits to fight diseases like diabetes, cancer and other health problems.
“Guinea pig is a protein-rich food with high biological value (21%), it is very low in fat (7%) and therefore also in cholesterol, unlike chicken and red meat. It has a lot of collagen, vitamins and minerals”, said Del Pozo to Inforegión.
According to the specialist, guinea pig meat contains a high presence of essential fatty acids for humans: AA (arachidonic) and DHA (docosahexaenoic). These substances help the development of neurons and cell membranes, which are important for the development of the brain of children up to 5 years old.
