Let me start by saying that Tarapoto’s Mercado 2, in opinion, is not the best market in Tarapoto. If you have the time, I do suggest that you make your way to Huecito, which is farther away from downtown Tarapoto. This is a larger market offers visitors a more diverse selection of produce. But Mercado 2 is easier to get to, and by visiting, you can acquaint yourself with the produce, pastries, and tastes that make this jungle region most unique.
