Companies interested in developing the medicinal cannabis market in Peru are ready to enter the country. Experts say that it could generate income for $1 million US dollars per hectare.
“Tony Salas, president of the agribusiness consultancy ACM, said that this product has attractive profitability”, according to Gestión, adding that the investment per hectare is of $120,000 US dollars.
“One hectare can produce about 200 kilos of cannabis oil, which sells for around $5,000 US dollars per kilo,” Salas told Gestión.
It is hoped that local cannabis cultivation will help around 10,000 patients in the country, but Peru will focus the business on exports since, according to Salas, there is an increased demand from abroad.
Plantations can be established throughout the country but the coast will be preferred because of its climate.
“On the other hand, the specialist recalled that only certified pharmaceutical laboratories can access licenses for agricultural production or finished product”, said Gestión.
