Last year, neonatal mortality was reduced by 18%, thanks to the efforts made by the Ministry of Health (Minsa), according to Zulema Thomas, head of this entity.
She also told the press, according to information from Andina News Agency, that they have been working to reduce maternal deaths.
“As a minister, doctor and mother, I want to express to you that I have always worked to improve the health of the children in Peru,” she said at a press conference offered to pronounce on the death of newborns due to lack of incubators in hospitals.
Thomas said that there is a lack of incubators, monitors, medications and medical personnel in Lambayeque, Piura and Arequipa.
“It is painful that our children continue to die, but as the governing body we are supporting the regions since the budget has been decentralized”, she emphasized, said Andina.
