Recently, 30 tombs belonging to the Mochica civilization in Peru were discovered, in an area of the ruins which was used for commemorative banquets to the dead, as experts believe.
According to SBS News, “these excavations at El Chorro started just two months ago, with experts believing there are many more remains to be found”.
The tombs that were discovered revealed ceramic pieces, and also human bodies without their feet, which could indicate some type of ritual, since “sacrifice was commonplace in Peru’s pre-Hispanic”, said SBS News.
This civilization, also known as Moche disappeared around 800 AD. They flourished along the northern coast and valleys in ancient Peru, in particular in the Chicama and Trujillo Valleys, and they were contemporary with the Nazca civilization.
