The initiative comes after the second tragedy involving a bus falling off a cliff in Peru that took place yesterday early morning.
Yesterday at 1:30 am a bus fell off a cliff in Arequipa, resulting in 44 people deceased. This is the second tragedy of this type that has taken place this year in Peru. As a result, president Pedro Pablo Kuczynski (PPK) asked the ministries of Transportation and Communications (MTC) and Interior (Mininter) to prepare a report on the work rules for bus and truck drivers.
Kuczynski said, through his Twitter account, that both ministries should have this report ready within a week, according to Gestión.
“The report must include aspects related to the working hours and conditions followed by these drivers.”, Gestión wrote.
This effort comes to avoid that more tragedies like these take place in the country.
PPK also asked to include aspects related to the technical reviews and safety of cargo and passenger vehicles in the document. “The report prepared by MTC and Mininter will serve as the basis for proposing legislative measures to Congress, as well as regulatory reforms within the Executive Branch.”, said Gestión.
“We can not continue like this!”, expressed the President, adding his will to have a moment of reflection for the victims and to thank the firemen and the medical staff involved for their help and hard work.
