“The department re-issued its warning ahead of two major sporting events involving American athletes — the Pan American Games taking place from July 26 to Aug. 11, as well as the Parapan American Games from Aug. 23 to Sept. 1”, the aforementioned website said.
The warning is a level two and it warns about possible crimes, petty theft, carjackings, muggings, assaults, and violent crime, and can occur during daylight hours, despite the presence of many witnesses, as they informed.
“The risk of crime increases after hours and outside the capital city of Lima where more organized criminal groups have been known to use roadblocks to rob victims,” they continued explaining.
However, the warning does not include popular tourist destinations such as Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley.
