The governments of Peru and Chile have committed themselves to develop a series of actions to reinforce the fight against drug abuse in both countries, as was informed by the National Commission for Development and Drug-Free Life (Devida).
According to El Peruano, this agreement took place in the 10th Mixed Commission Reunion of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances between Peru and Chile, in Lima.
In this meeting, both countries have agreed to share information that includes monthly analysis of intelligence on routes, entry modalities, and in general, illicit drug traffic situation in the common border.
The institutions in charge of these tasks will be Dirandro (Anti-Drug Direction in Peru) and the Chilean Police Anti-Drugs Department. Both of them will take charge of the operations together whose exact date and details will be published in the following weeks.
The anti-drug departments will hold biannual meetings in the border to evaluate strategies.
Devida also discussed a total of 44 agreements during this meeting, that brought together “half a hundred of authorities and officials of the main organisms and private agencies linked to the illicit substance abuse problem in both countries” last Tuesday, informs El Peruano.
In order to control the drug demand, specialists in Devida presented officials from Senda (National Service for Prevention and rehabilitation of Drugs and Alcohol Consumption) the experience that the program “Strong Families: love and boundaries”, which promotes communication among parents and their children to prevent risky behaviors.
