The Peruvian Congress approved the Law Project 2094/2017 of Promotion of Regional Cinema that aims to promote the cinematographic and audiovisual activity in the country, especially that of the regions outside the capital.
“Emphasis is placed on the visibility and promotion of film production that takes place anywhere in the territory except Lima and Callao, areas considered in other bills that are currently recognized and broader”, Congressman Oracio Pacori informed in a press release.
This bill is focused on highlighting cinematographic productions that occur in Ayacucho, Puno and Huancayo, mainly, to give other professionals of the area opportunities to get known, display their work and also compete internationally.
“The law proposes that adequate and effective support mechanisms be given for the development of the film industry and that 40% of the allocated budget be allocated for regional cinema”, the statement reads.
According to Pacori, the approval of this initiative is a big step in the support of the country’s culture.
