Linio.com analyzed several basic food baskets in Latin America and determined that Peru’s is one of the most expensive.
The basic food basket helps to know more about the national and regional economy since it is a set of basic necessities that an average family needs to subsist a certain period of time.
Linio.com compared the prices of Colombia, Argentina, Mexico, Chile, Ecuador and Peru.
“Taking into account that some of the products that include basic baskets are meats, fish, cereals, legumes, tubers, fruits, vegetables, dairy products (milk, yogurt and cheeses), fats, eggs, etc.”, La República explained.
The study concluded that Peru is the most expensive country with respect to the basic basket where it has a cost of 328 soles; followed by Colombia with 283 soles; Argentina with 243 soles; Mexico with 212 soles; Chile with 209 soles and finally Ecuador with 192 soles.
With these data, Linio determined that the average price of the basic basket in Latin America is 245 soles and that locates Peru above this average.
