Ian Schwer and Juan Pablo Cano, two Argentine mountaineers, lost their lives as they climbed the snowy Caraz in Peru, which is more than 6,000 meters high in the Andes region.
“Their bodies were recovered on Sunday, two days after they were reported missing, police said today [Monday]”, La Nación informed.
This mountain is a snow-capped peak part of the Cordillera Blanca in the northern region of Ancash and with these new deceases, there are now 12 mountaineers killed in these glaciers in the last two years.
Major Gilmer Torres, of the Alta Montaña police in the city of Huaraz, told AFP that “the foreigners died when they tried to climb an ice wall of the snowy mountain and one of the ice blocks collapsed.”
“This is a very technical mountain, that is, it requires a lot of preparation to be able to climb it, not only because of the height but also because of the climatic conditions,” the president of the High Mountain Guides House of Huaraz, Rafael Figueroa, told the press.
