The US Office of Taxation and Commerce of Alcohol and Tobacco (TTB) evaluates new provisions for the labeling and marketing of wines, malt beverages and distilled liquors, such as pisco.
The objective is to modernize, simplify and clarify the information that should be provided to customers, according to information published in Gestión. Also, the final consumer will be more clear about the drinks he is buying.
“Although the changes would not represent major modifications, each brand must adapt its label and its marketing strategy to the new indications when they are approved and come into force”, the aforementioned website said.
The proposal establishes – for cases such as pisco – that imported alcoholic beverages and distillates place the designation of origin on their respective labels. Since there is Peruvian and Chilean pisco, Peru’s would need to read on the label “Peruvian Pisco”.
