(LIP-ir) -- Peru's Andina News Agency reported today that Puno's Regional Health Directorate sent a group of specialists to the Carancas community in the province of Chucuito near Bolivia to take samples of a meteorite that supposedly landed in the area.

Jorge López Tejada, a representative for the institution, stated that an environmental cleaning crew was going to the area to take earth and water samples from the actual landing site and from surrounding areas.

"The samples will be tested in Lima, where the necessary equipment is available. We hope that results will be ready within 7days," said Jorge López Tejada.

In addition, Tejada stated that a health brigade, consisting of doctors and nurses would be sent to the landing site to aid people that had reported health problems after having gotten close to the supposed meteorite.

"Between 10 and 12 people have reported dizziness, migraines and in some cases vomiting. They assure that after having had close contact with the object the symptoms began," stated Tejada.

Furthermore, Tejada stated that check ups would be performed and that it had not been discarded that the symptoms could be related to the glowing object which fell from the sky. "They are healthy people, it could be (due to) radiation, we don't know, we are assuming, it's worth investigating. Things will be clearer tomorrow," stated Tejada.

I read somewhere that about a 1/2 mile away a one year old boy was spotted lifting up a car with both hands while someone changed out the flat tire... hmm.. coincidence.  I think not.

# Lensman says :

All kidding aside, it sounds like symptoms of exposure to volcanic gasses. This could be nothing more than gasses from the meteorite and/or bedrock that was struck by the meteorite being heated and outgassing.

If similar symptoms are exhibited by those who didn't closely approach the area where the meteorite hit, THEN I'd be worried!

Its here, get ready, no one knows how big this might get.  This sounds like it might be the start of the Zombie outbreak.  I say go get the survival guide, get teams together, and start preparing.  You never know.

Peru and Bolivia are in the range where a geosynchronous satellite would likely hit.  I think one hit Bolivia before.

even if it's a satellite it still might be radioactive..
about a boy lifting car that's just silly :) now the limits ))

Yes Yes keep well good people,I too have been made aware by the sighting of the meteorite in question (by my sister and brother in law)as it  was decending from the heavens across a southern hemisphere night sky , looking up from Mullumbimby, on the east- central coast of Australia.Be it a satellite controled by a a shape changeing lizard or the ineviatable hatching of the Slither worms we were warned about, we can clearly predict the tragic unfolding of this amagedon

# Cesar A. Malaga says :

I am familiar with the area that the suppose meteorite fell. I lived in Puno for 19 years.

I do not think is a meteorite, because the hole made is only 19 feet and 98 feet wide. How did the water get there, the place is flat, no rivers near by and it is a dry place. I think it is a man made item. Could it be the trash they are discarding for the Space Station?

# ivy says :

it's not radiation poisoning. it's beans.

Hi! people! I was unsure wether it is a meteorite or not

Today I received an anonymous comment from an Italian reader in my personal blog. His comment is written in english despite the fact my blog is  in spanish (weeeeell, I have an spanish to english, french, etc translator but you jnow that those translating services aren't what you may prefer!)
OK the point is that he says that russians said that the "meteorite" was a satellite!
I haven't heard information related to this "theory" (?) so far

As of yet,it seems that there are a lot of unanswered sinerios run around over the identification of what the nature of this mysterious occurence is.
The trues of the matter is,is that a lot of insecure information has filtered out of this and no one really knows what is going on (don't get me wrong)but i am very sceptical of what has been said. Is there another senerio behind the (big Picture) that no ones see s again debatable to if this is occurance is [True or False] There does't seem to be a huge amount of urgency place on this event have nt taken place.??????
I read and see video conferences of the site (broadcasted) around the world & the warning implication to people to keep away for health & safety reason, but i don't see any one complying to these general requests and people still unprotected, secondly why has n't the site been securely made a hazard zone to all.?????

Ok, all joking aside, mass hysteria?? These bastards are really trying to shrug off everyone who might need medical assistance in a poverty-stricken area they don't want to deal with: 'Meteorite' Crash Breeds Mass Hysteria
Has anyone else besides me read about how contaminated those
waters were, in that area the meteor (likely NASA debris, as Martha
pointed out) kicked up?
My thinking is whatever was in that water got in the air and everyone
near it is breathing into their lungs and genuinely getting sick from it.
I say if the government does not have the capacity to deal with it, it should be responsible and investigate its connection with the U.S.’s or other entity’s
mission activity leading to the debris falling, and hold them at least partially responsible for providing medical assistance. And in the odd case that this isn’t a debris cover-up, then at least acknowledge the problem so that you may solicit help in the case of an epidemic.
Calling the occurrence of illness in 600 or so people "mass hysteria" is disrespectful and hurtful. These are not doctors. These are third-world charlatans with no respect for their own people, or their own vocation.
Shameful.

# Eric says :
27 September, 2007 [ 10:16 ]

I agree, mass hysteria, the media really thinks people are stupid. Or whoever it was that had the yahoo article written. Definitely lies -- eric

# Bette English says :
27 September, 2007 [ 10:19 ]

This is ridiculous. I cannot believe the cowardice of those doctors, and

the irresponsibility. I hope these people don’t end up developing whatever

they’ve got (malaria gasses, anyone?) into something fatal. Someone

somewhere in that country better be looking out for those people.

I hope the “doctors” reporting hysteria were really just the PR people, and

not the ones actually receiving those people in the clinics.

Big difference between radiation poisoning and "mass hysteria," huh?

Is anyone else not surprised that this didn't make the news back home in the u.s? I'd think it might be relevant...

Pravda used to be the National Communist News Daily in the USSR, but since the fall of the Soviet Union has become known as a tabloid or sensationalist publication.

Now quite a good source for anything if you ask me.
