Leysi Suarez, a Peruvian showgirl and dancer for Alma Bella band made international headlines when a naked picture of her on top of the Peruvian flag was published on the cover of a magazine.# rice and sugar says :

Come on! She did something silly, and perhaps offensive to some Peruvians. But, she does not deserve jail for that. Come on! Let her learn her lesson. How did you expect her to be smart?
# off with head says :

She really didn't think she would have offended some people? The silly-*** needs to be made an example of. She's lucky she didn't do this in some Islamic country where they would have stoned her to death or chop her head off in public.

The problems is that silly peruvian girls want to imitate what people in others countries do, where there is no respect for the flag. Must be some kind of punishment in order to make clear that we latinamerican people respect our patriotic symbols.
You can see the stupidity in this beautiful girl, now she is blaming somebody else for something she did. It is insane.
Angry peruvian from New York.

What incredible ignorance to confused a lump of cotton or polyester for patriotism.
With or without a flag, I will love my country and my flag means very much to me, but that is in my heart so if someone burns it, pees on it or wears it under their bear behind, it changes nothing because I am not so weak or fragile that I think I should fear someone who does not think as I do, or I should punish someone because they do not hold my values.
I consider it a weak and ingorant trait to worship polyester fiber.

A flag is a representation of one's country. People pledge allegiance to the flag...meaning the country. Respecting a flag is a demonstration of patriotism.
# Daniel says :

No one is worshipping the actual material or the image itself. The flag could be painted on a stone but that doesn't mean that people will be worshipping the stone. As Symbols stated, the flag is a represenation of one's country. This is nothing more than a tasteless and disrespectful picture.
Newbrood you don't represent all peruvians simply because you state you are peruvian. We all don't share your low class values.

I don't know Peruvian law. But I think it is unlikely that there is a law that makes this type of show a crime. She has freedom of expression and she has the right to excersice it. I can't believe they are making such a big deal. I have always liked Flores Araoz, but this time I am not with him. As far as 'some Islamic country,' it is good we are not like that. Let's keep it that way. I believe she deserves no punishment.
# Punisher says :

Well if the Minister of Defense is asking for charges to be brought up against her then obviously some type of law was broken.
Yes, we are lucky not to be under the laws of Sharia. I say just give her 20 lashes in public as she stands over the red part of the flag so the blood won't make a mess.

People: I don't know if there's a law against what Leysi Suarez did, but there should be....all I know is that it is in extremely bad taste to treat a national flag in this manner. It shows a lack of decency and decorum. No one can deny that.....only some non-conformists and irreverent people would make comments like "Newbreed" and "mericorps". What is wrong with you two! Did you just fly in with "Pluto Airlines"? I'm especially dumbfounded by "Newbreed".....what school did you go to? what kind of upbringing did you have that you don't feel our flag should be respected? Don't you feel any emotion for it? This act by Leysi Suarez is especially offensive to Peruvians who are so nationalistic. It may not raise any eyebrows in the USA if their flag is treated in this manner....but we don't allow that kind of disrespect here.
Also, Leysi Suarez and Daisy (the woman who prompted her to put her derriere on our flag) are a couple of "huachafas"....what do you expect from people like that!
The Farandula publication is probably a low-class publication anyway....so, is it any wonder that they would put her up to doing a dumb, tacky thing like posing naked, sitting on our "rojiblanca"?
I think Leysi should give a public apology and she should learn to love and respect our flag. I hope this is the last time anyone dares to treat our national symbol in this manner.
I agree with "Symbols", "Daniel" and "Oliver".

I honestly don't know what to think, obviously this was a publicity stunt, but, when you consider all the people who, in peruvian history, have died defending that "piece of fiber" as some well educated people here described the peruvian flag, it makes it a bit difficult to accept this woman's behind (as plump and meaty and attractive as it may be, sorry....i like meat!) resting over it. this type of "artistic expression" is offensive, regardless of how open minded one can be. last time i checked, and of course this was a long time ago, offending or misusing a patriotic emblem was penalized by peruvian law, of course, i think we all can agree, being a publicity stunt, it has been already succesful.
Again, i honestly don't know what to think, all the talk it has started kind of validates such action, don't you think?
better let it be, it's not worth the time i think.

Do we really want Leisy to apologize for this? What are we? If someone does something that we believe to be of bad taste, they must say "I am sorry" or else? She should go to prision? What hypocrisy! People in congress who wear the flag across their chest and steal, hire ghost employees, exchange favors for money, etc, in other words most people in congress, do much worse against Peru. Regular people who dump garbage on the street, while walking or from their cars, do more harm to our country. Soccer fans who wear the flag in their heads and then get into street fights and other vandalic activities do much more harm to Peru. Let's not even talk about Burga. He is powerful, who will make him apologize? When people don't help their fellow countrymen, but rather make their lives more difficult everyday, at every customer service desk they do much more harm to Peru. All those daily fights in congress only meant to win and make the other group look bad with complete disregard to the progress of country... how about that? Shouldn't they be the one apologizing?
We may not like Leisy, we may think she is but a dumb 'cumbiambera', we may dislike what she did, but she does not have to apologize and she should not even go to trial. Must she apologize just because she is weak and not powerful like others who never will? Do we have to intimidate her just because we can but remain silent when others really hurt our country just because they have power? That is ridiculous and shameful. She is a Peruvian who loves her country and she did not mean to provoke anyone or disrespect her country. I am sure many people don't like many things we do, and we don't have to go out apologizing to everyone for our poor taste or else they will hang us. People are free to do as they wish as long as they do not hurt, trangress, coerce, or commit any crime against others. She hasn't.

Leyci is the most desired woman actually in Peru, she´s beautiful, a great (siliconed) ass, and big tits, the pics from the magazine show her very bad, ugly, too much photoshp from an amateur designer.
This problem with the flag, is a bad thing for her, appears that this girls have not brain, this is the typical case of a model that receive some bucks and can do anything what the photographer say.
Just remember that this girl was caught leaving a prision, after visiting a Drug king-Pin prisoner.

All of you guys can beat your gums about how it's no biggie that Leysi disrespected the Peruvian flag by virtue of sitting on it...in the raw. The fact is that none of you are going to succeed in persuading any Peruvian that there is nothing wrong with that. You can't impose your devil-may-care views on these conservative and patriotic people. You're free to say that it's ok if some broad sits on your American, Australian, British or Brazilian flag, naked...but no one has the right to make derogatory statements about Peruvians if they feel that Leysi, Daisy and the D'Farandula magazine should be sanctioned for disrespect to their national symbol.
Have any of you ever heard of "flag etiquette"? Even the US observes "flag etiquette".....things like the US flag is not suppposed to hit the ground, nor be flown after dusk, etc. I once walked across the street to my neighbor and presented him with a new US flag because the one he was flying from his fancy 20-ft. flag pole had faded to a pink and light blue....and was ragged. He apologized and thanked me for the new flag.... and I've never had to buy him another one.
It makes me think, from reading some of the comments above, that many of you are not really acquainted with Peruvian culture.....or even with the "flag etiquette" of your own countries.

Yes I believe the flag flap was in very poor taste, and like I said it was a stunt to gain publicity for whatever reason. I am a Canadian/US citizen and there would be hell to pay in Canada and more so in the US for being disrespectful to the national symbol.
Case in point when I was living many years in Florida a Canadian flew the Canadian Flag over the US flag on his front lawn and trouble ensued. Hit the news media and much controversy.
Peruvians are no different and just as patriotic.
Leisy has apologized, and her knuckles rapped for this. Maybe community service so she gets the message loud and clear. Many good looking women are used and abused for money driven purposes. As old as time...Sometimes beauty can be a curse!!!
Time to move on and let this one go.

People I have talked to do not find this a big deal. Most don't care, or find it a joke. I read some do. How is getting offended by it and demanding punishment part of Peruvian culture? Clearly not all Peruvians see it the same way.
Sure, some people are entitled not to like it whether in their countries or in Peru. But that does not mean that not liking it is Peruvian culture. Nor does it mean that Peruvians that don't find it a big deal are less patriotic.
Flag ettiquete? Sure, no problem. Must that neighbor go to prison for that, make a public apology and/or do community service? Not unless we believe other people's acts must be subjected to our liking. There is a place like that in our hemisphere, Cuba.

The flag alone is nothing special, not Peru's flag, not the U.S. flag or any other country's but the ideals that these flags and countries represent are indeed very special and should be respected. I wounder if these defenders of the model would feel the same if this were a naked Hugo Chavez on the flag? Wrong is wrong no matter who is doing it. I don't think the woman should go to jail for it but I do feel that she should be punished in some form for her actions. "right on track"......you're derailed.

It was a vulgar display for sure but it got what this "model" heifer wanted: a load of free publicity.

Devilmaycare: rest assured, I wouldn't want to see Hugo Chavez naked --- period.

I think Winston has it spot on. Nude women disgust me. No one likes to see nude women!

Chaufa and Winston,
You guys take the cake, with your pompous holier than though attitude. if you do not want to see a naked woman, don't look. I do not want to particularly see one either, but I am not so ignorant nor arrogant that I think I can decide that for everyone based on my personal taste. Further, your comment about weight just shows you are really morally bankrupt and to be honest, i would be loathe to have a neighbor like you who thinks he is above it all.
And furhter, he in glass houses should not throw stones.
I am sure you are uglier than sin..if not on the outside, within your heart.

Oh for goodness sake!!!! its ONLY a naked woman!!!!!!
some people sound like Repressed virgins on here ...like they have never seen a naked woman before!
the Human body is beautifull...nothing to be ashamed of.
...well i say... if ya dont like it...then shut your eyes!

I have no problem with nudity. I just don't find excessive flab attractive. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and this woman just doesn't do it for me. I couldn't have had a look with my eyes closed, but after a quick gander, I didn't have the desire to linger for long.P.S. I get the distinct impression that mericorps is the one with the holier than thou attitude. No doubt you're a frustrated woman with a muffin top who lives with like 15 cats.

My dear children: it is so sad that so much time is being wasted on this subject. Some of you are are going off on a tangent. The topic here is about the disrespect shown to the Peruvian flag by an entertainer. It is also about indecent exposure in connection with a national symbol. It is not about your opinion about this young woman's body......that is not the point.
I hope and pray that you will not continue this heated debate and will choose to love one another in Peace and understanding. We are here to create a better world whether you're aware of it or not. Please reflect on these things.....don't be offensive to one another, think before you write. Let's promote good will among men/women...let's practice Universal Love. I don't know you.......but I love you all! May you be enlightened so you can choose Peace before war. Be good, my children, be good. There'll be other topics you can discuss in "Living in Peru" and contribute to a better Peru and therefore.....a better World. God bless and love you all!

Sister Mary is right...Just let this go as really it is old news. Leysi is great, Peru is great, Peruvian people are great & I love them...time to make this yesterday's news.
Controversy should now be dimmed. She messed up and the story is stale. This is what this is all about...Called Media play!!!
Great looking lady with issues, but I still might take her home to meet Mama!!! OK Leysi..You are on!!
There are other issues that need attention now so get to it!!!!!
God Bless!!!

You're right, Sister Mary. I went off and did something I criticize others for doing. Sorry!!! And Lord David is right: this is old news.

From start to whenever this finishes I find this La-Dee-Da a hoot. Probably somebody is laughing all the way to the bank on this one and probably it is not really Leysi. She is a good looking pawn in the big picture. A publicity stunt that was well crafted to get attention albeit not the best kind of attention.
You know Leysi is probably a sweet lady caught up in a roller coaster world that often great looking ladies fall prey to which can take on a life of its own. The spin off is not always pleasant for the main players. Life in the fast lane. Live fast Die hard!
Winston is right, Sister Mary is right, time to close the book. Oh, by the way my Lady Love in the La Perla area is far better looking and has a body to die for....So there!! Trust Me on this One!!!

Winston, my dear boy, it takes a special man to be able to retract himself.....you're fine.
Simon: as Lord David says: "it's time to close the book".
This topic is useless.
