Peruvian historian María Rostworowski Tovar de Diez Canseco (92) was awarded with a Gold Congress of the Republic Medal, as an official recognition to her great contribution for a deeper understanding of Peruvian national identity.
The congress hall named after her mentor, Raúl Porras Barrenechea, was the chosen place for the awarding ceremony, which was attended by friends, relatives and her students, as well as by congress representatives.
“I'm not much of a speaker. I warmly thank you for all your nice words about me. Thank you very much” was all that Rostworowski said.
Congressmen Lourdes Alcorta and Alejandro Aguinaga highlighted the importance of Rostworowski's works to understand the diverse and multicultural Peruvian identity. “We are especially honoring the historian, the mother and the woman” said Alcorta.
From all her wide production, her
Historia del Tahuantinsuyo (History of Tahuantinsuyo) has already sold more than 50 mil copies and has become part of all universities' seminars (and regular courses) mandatory bibliography.
