INTERPOL issues red notice for Manuel Rosales in Peru

Due to a request made by Caracas, the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) emitted on Friday a red bulletin to its members stating opposition leader Manuel Antonio Rosales is wanted in Venezuela.

The red alert, which requests the provisional arrest of the man known as Hugo Chavez's foe, was issued after Venezuelan prosecutors reported Rosales had not shown up for court on charges of amassing illicit wealth.

According to INTERPOL, Venezuela is seeking Rosales on corruption charges, which allegedly took place when he was governor of Zulia from 2002 to 2004.

INTERPOL affirmed that it was up to Peru to decide what would be done about the red bulletin and under which circumstances Rosales' arrest and extradition would be permitted.

Rosales, who has assured the charges are politically motivated and that he is suffering political persecution by Chavez's government, has denied any involvement in stealing money.

Gotta love it when your dictator gets so strong that he can hunt down anyone who opposes him even in other countries.  I guess Rosales realized that it was better to leave Venezuela than to try to oppose the tyrant and his mafia.  It sounds like the Fujimori days when the gov't could lock up anyone they want and make up any charges they felt like.
