Peruvian swimmer Ruben Medina
fulfilled his promise: he
swam with shackles on his feet from San Lorenzo island to Cantolao beach in La Punta (a distance of five kilometers).
Medina, also known as “Titicaca’s Triton”, departed from the San Lorenzo island at 12:15 hours and arrived at the Cantolao beach at 14:50 hours.
The guide vessel had to deviate from the initial route, due to the great amount of trash floating on the sea that prevented the swimmer from progressing in his efforts.
The executive president of Autonomous Bi-national Authority of Lake Titicaca (ALT), Julián Barra Catacora, said that this activity was aimed to promote voting for Lake Titicaca in the New 7 Wonders of Nature contest.
