5 Peruvian Universities Are Among The Best In Research In Latin America

Five universities in Peru are among the 100 best in research and scientific publications in Latin America, according to the recently released Scimago Institutions Rankings (SIR) 2019.

The methodological criterion of the SIR ranking is based on three main indicators: research (measured by the quantity and quality of scientific publications) 50%; innovation (measured by patents and scientific publications related to patents) 30%; social visibility (measured by access and interest in the general contents of the institution’s website) 20%”, according to Andina News Agency

Cayetano Heredia University heads this ranking together with the Ministry of Health (Minsa). They are followed by the University of Applied Sciences, San Marcos, Catholic of Peru and San Martín de Porres.

“According to SIR 2019, there are a total of 288 higher education institutions that do relevant scientific research in Latin America”, the aforementioned media said.

SCImago is a research group of the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC), University of Granada, Extremadura, Carlos III (Madrid) and Alcalá de Henares, dedicated to the analysis of information, representation and recovery using visualization techniques.
