The effects of the El Niño phenomenon in Peru and other natural events that have caused damages in the country have led professionals to believe that a better development of environmental engineering is needed.
“It is essential to have more environmental engineering specialists, who represent the key to the development of sustainability by balancing the economic, social and environmental aspects”, said Dr. María Quintana, head of the Environmental Engineering of the Peruvian University Cayetano Heredia (UPCH), according to a note from this institute.
Environmental engineering uses science and engineering tools to prevent, protect, mitigate or compensate for negative impacts on the environment, caused by the nature and progress of humanity, they explained.
This is why the Peruvian University Cayetano Heredia is promoting a career in Environmental Engineering. They said that a professional in this area will be able to identify and solve environmental problems; use science and technology for innovation and its subsequent industrial application; have the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams, and have an entrepreneurial attitude to develop environmental businesses.
“For example, in the area of environmental planning, the professional can implement strategies at a territorial level to protect the environment, biodiversity and society, as well as in the prevention of risks and natural disasters”, Quintana explained.
