Because of a high risk of malaria, the Health Ministry will hold a 90-day observation.
After determining a high risk of malaria, the National Center for Epidemiology, Prevention, and Control of Diseases declared a health warning for the districts of Uraninas and Parinari, informed Telesur.
The Health Ministry in Peru (Minsa), said that 31 indigenous communities were declared in health emergency for a total of 90 days to take necessary immediate actions to guarantee the residents’ health when exposed to water not meant for human consumption.
The reason for these measures is the high risk of epidemic outbreaks related to diseases from the consumption of contaminated water, explained Telesur.
“The communities do not have water supply systems for human consumption or they are in a poor state or inoperative, the Ministry of Energy and Mines explained in its statement”, wrote Telesur, also adding that the districts of Uraninas and Parinari presented a high risk of malaria and diarrheal and parasitic diseases with risk of parasitosis.
These diseases can result in anemia and chronic child malnutrition, so in order to avoid any complications within the population, several native communities are under the observation of Minsa.
