A group of Australian parliamentarians visited Lima last week and discussed the opportunities offered by the recently signed Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Australia and Peru, the air services agreement and the opening of the Work & Holiday visa program.
The delegation was made up of parliamentarians Nola Marino and John McVeigh and Senators Kimberley Kitching and David Leyonhjelm, said Gestión.
Their two-day program included meetings with the Peruvian Foreign Ministry, the Peru-Australia Parliamentary Friendship League, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism, the Chamber of Commerce of Lima and the Exporters Association of Peru.
They also visited an agro-food fair and met with members of the Australian Alumni Network in Peru, as well as with beneficiaries of the Work & Holiday visa program.
“The parliamentary Marino is the current Head of the Parliamentary Group of Government; She has been recognized as the Rural Woman of the Year and has received the medal of exceptional service to the community for her work for the benefit of the rural population and sports in Australia, among other recognitions”, explained Gestión.
Senator McVeigh has been Minister of Regional Development, Territories and Local Governments during the current government of Australia. In addition, he was Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry of the State of Queensland from 2012 to 2016.
Senator Kitching, a lawyer by profession, has dedicated her efforts to promoting the creation of jobs; while Senator Leyonhhjelm promotes rural development and agricultural policies.
