All commercial establishments located in the district of Miraflores, Lima will not hand out plastic bags the first Wednesday of each month, according to an ordinance published on Wednesday in the official newspaper El Peruano, which promotes the reduction of plastic and technopor in this jurisdiction.

The Ordinance No. 511 / MM states that the measure, which will take effect as of April 4, is part of the actions promoted by the municipal council of Miraflores to promote the progressive reduction of the use and distribution of bags, straws, utensils, single-use plastic containers and technopor, in order to minimize the generation of solid waste in the district.

“Likewise, the first Wednesday of each month is declared as the ‘I deplastify Miraflores’ day, in order to motivate citizen participation in the progressive implementation of local and national strategies to reduce the use of plastic and technopor”, Andina News Agency informed.
