More unions join general strike against Tía María mining project in Peru

Members of several different unions in Peru confirmed this Wednesday their participation in a strike that will take place today, August 5, against the Tía María mining project.

Also, the protests will be against the La Tapada mining project, also in the Tambo Valley, according to information from Telesur.

“In addition, the Comando de Lucha announced the extension of its assembly for Wednesday, at 6:30 pm (local time), at the Departmental Federation of Workers of Arequipa headquarters, where responsibilities will be shared during the indefinite strike”, the aforementioned media said.

Protests in the Tambo Valley have been running for more than 17 days in a row and have spread to other territories of the country.
