It is expected that by March 2019, the Peruvian branch of the Chinese BYD will bring to the country five electric buses that will be used both for urban transport and private transportation.
“The goal is that by the first semester of next year, at least three of these vehicles will be used for public passenger transport”, informed Gestión today.
According to BYD’s general manager in Peru, Roberto Obradovich, they have been working with the multilateral and development banks to achieve good financing in favor of their clients. He also told the media that between October and March 2019 the five buses that will arrive will be added to a bus that is already operating for free in San Isidro.
Obradovich announced also the arrival for the local market of four trucks and two electric cars.
“For a long time we have been talking with companies dedicated to mass public transport, but the legal instability offered by the three-year temporary authorizations of the Urban Transportation Management of the Municipality of Lima (MML) did not give the confidence to directly finance these ventures”, he said.
