The investigation that follows against the Peruvian opposition leader Keiko Fujimori for alleged money laundering is left once more without a judge, after a higher court accepted the inhibition of the magistrate Elizabeth Arias.
“The judge, who was to replace Judge Richard Concepcion Carhuancho after he was recused, had filed a request for inhibition on 14 February after acknowledging that he had had links with the lawyers of some of the investigated people in this case”, Clarín wrote.
Now, after the exclusion of Concepción and Arias, the investigation can only fall on the judges Santos Benites or Víctor Zúñiga.
“Prosecutor José Domingo Pérez points out that this alleged organization [Fuerza Popular] lavished large sums of money to finance Keiko’s electoral campaign in 2011, which included a million dollars that the Brazilian construction company Odebrecht claims to have delivered”, the aforementioned media said.
