Tomorrow an appeal hearing for Peru’s jailed opposition leader, Keiko Fujimori, against her 36-month sentence will take place.
“Fujimori was jailed on October 31 pending the outcome of a multimillion-dollar corruption probe that has rocked Peruvian politics”, informed Journal Du Cameroun.
The Peruvian prosecution has accused a total of 11 people linked to Fujimori of running a criminal organization to raise illicit funding for her 2011 presidential campaign.
“Seven of those, including Fujimori, are in pre-trial detention”, the aforementioned media said.
Last Wednesday, judicial authorities announced that the appeal for Fujimori’s sentence and also for her former campaign chief, Jaime Yoshiyama, will take place on Saturday.
Yoshiyama is currently in Miami, allegedly recovering from a medical intervention. Nevertheless, a lower court accuses him of evading justice.
