Maido, a Peruvian restaurant specialized in Nikkei gastronomy and owned by chef Micha Tsumura, ranked 10th on the list of the 50 best restaurants in 2019.
“The gala, which brings together the best chefs in the world, was held for the first time in Asia in its 18th edition, after the awards began a tour around the world, when they left London to celebrate in New York in 2016, and after in Melbourne (2017) and in Bilbao (2018)”, according to Gestión.
The British magazine Restaurant has been preparing this list since 2002 and for the first time, no previous winners could appear as the best restaurants on this occasion.
“This ruled out the winner of last year, the Italian Osteria Franciscana, the chef Massimo Bottura, the Spanish El Celler de Can Roca (winner in 2013 and 2015) – which in the last edition was in second place- and the New Yorker Eleven Madison Park , winner in 2017 and fourth in 2018”, they continued.
