Diego Maradona spoke about the match between Peru and France at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Diego Maradona was one of the protagonists in the draw for the 2018 World Cup in Russia selecting Peru in the draw. Days after the ceremony, Maradona, who is called “Pelusa”, gave some recommendations to the Peruvian team on the kind of attitude they should adopt when facing France.
Peru is in Group C along with France, Denmark, and Australia. While France is the favorite to win the group, Denmark and Australia are teams that are vulnerable, suggesting Peru has a good chance of qualifying for the next stage, considered by Gareca the main goal of the team in this World Cup.
Speaking to “Telesur”, Diego Maradona was encouraged to give some advice to the Peruvian team. In the following video it can be seen that Maradona affirms the following:
“If Peru wants to play in a different way to France, it will not work.”
It is worth mentioning that Coach Gareca is also Argentinian, although he was never able to go to a World Cup during his career as a player.
The former ‘Number 10’ of the Argentine team added: The difference needs to be subtle. “The best thing that Latinos can have is to show their own identity, when they are on the field, to play with the ball in the subtle way only latinos do. It is something that a European will never be able to do”.
