According to the Ministry of Culture, Peru is one of the countries in the world with more linguistic rights.
This was highlighted by the deputy minister of interculturality of the aforementioned ministry, Elena Burga at the ceremony of the “International Year of Indigenous Languages 2019,” informed Andina News Agency.
“Since 2011, when the law governing the use, preservation, development, recovery, promotion and dissemination of the native languages, important steps have been taken in the attention of Peruvians who speak native languages”, said Andina.
Burga also said that at the moment there are 419 translators and interpreters in 38 of the 48 original languages that are spoken in Peru.
“She added that bilingual public officials are being progressively certified in different State entities in different regions” and that in the coming weeks the Ministry of culture will launch a call service through the Telephone Interpretation Center in Indigenous Languages (CITEL), the news agency informed.
