This year, 8,000 tons of Hass avocados from Peru have been exported to Asia and their price is expected to increase by up to 20% over the 2018 season, Fresh Plaza said.
This type of avocados is sent to Asia in large quantities from Peru and the expected price could be of $2.4 US dollars per kilo, according to Daniel Bustamante, president of Prohass.
Bustamante told Fresh Plaza that the increase in value could be due to the fact that the world avocado supply has decreased and demand is growing.
Peru is currently one of the world’s leading avocado exporters and the country is expected to export in 2019 around 290,000 tons of this fruit.
“Bustamante said that the production of avocados is expected to increase in the coming years, mainly due to the new cultivation areas that are now at an early stage, but that will increase the production. This will allow Peru to enter new markets”, fresh Plaza informed.
