“I am happy that Peru is present in Madrid for its culture”, said writer and Nobel Prize Mario Vargas Llosa at the inauguration of ARCOmadrid 2019.
Peru is the guest country in the 38th edition of the Contemporary Art Fair of Madrid, with a large range of artists, Ifema fairgrounds pavillions, and in different museums and cultural institutions in Madrid.
“Vargas Llosa, who was accompanied by the former director of the Cervantes Institute, the critic and writer Juan Manuel Bonet, discussed some of the exhibitions he has already visited”, informed El Comercio.
“Peruvians are amazed by this exhibition because they discover that in the 1920s and 1930s Lima was an important cultural center”, Vargas Llosa said.
The author also recalled that Peru “is a country with many identities, not just one identity, as can be seen in the ‘Nasca’ exhibition (Fundación Telefónica) about the Peruvian and pre-Hispanic millenary culture or the sample ‘Amazonies’, in the Slaughterhouse”, according to El Comercio.
