(LIP-jl) -- The Peruvian Minister of Justice, Maria Zavala, considered the recent verdict issued by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) favors Peru's efforts to extradite former president Alberto Fujimori from Chile.
Though the decision by the IACHR does not directly fault Fujimori, it does implicate the responsibility of the Peruvian government in the murders of 9 students and one professor from the University of Cantuta in 1992 during Fujimori's first term.
The Peruvian human rights association, Pro Human Rights (APRODEH in Spanish), expressed their content with the decision and stated the decision should be noted by Chilean authorities in charge of Furimori's extradition case.
"He hope that Chilean authorities read the verdict issued by the IACHR and take it into account when they make their decision regarding Fujimori's fate," declared Fransisco Soberon, director of APRODEH.
