Peru seeks to conclude a comprehensive free trade agreement (FTA) with India as soon as possible, for the mutual benefit of both nations.

After two rounds of discussions that have already taken place, the minister of foreign trade and tourism of Peru, Rogers Valencia Espinoza, hopes for a third round in Delhi in August this year.
“He outlined the need to conclude the agreement at the earliest”, said Times of India a week ago, adding that the two countries want to enhance their trade relations.
On his part, the vice president of India, M. Venkaiah Naidu, “held extensive talks with the president, prime minister and senior ministers of Peru in Lima on a range of issues indicating specific areas for enhanced engagement”, as you can read in Times of India.

One of the benefits for Peru from the FTA is the supply of quality and cost-effective goods from India across several industries including pharmaceutical and technology, according to declarations from Naidu.

In addition, the health minister of Peru, Silvia Pessah Eljay, suggested the Indian government might encourage Indian pharmaceutical companies to set up generic medicines production facilities in Peru.

These two nations celebrated 55 years of diplomatic ties in Lima on May 11.
