This year a total of 366 have taken place in Peru, 5 of them in the last 24 hours.
Since Tuesday morning, May 22 to May 23 five earthquakes were recorded in the north, central and south coast of Peru. So far this year, the country has had 366 quakes, 81 of them during the month of May.
Telesur informed yesterday that none of these quakes have resulted in casualties or material damages and that in the past 24 hours since Wednesday the country has experienced five earthquakes:
The first of magnitude 4.9 occurred at 08:08 local time (13.08 GMT) on Tuesday, May 22, in the province of Huacho, in the region of Lima.
The second of magnitude 5.1 occurred at 17h12 local time (22.12 GMT) on Tuesday, in the province of Trujillo, in the northern region of La Libertad.
The third of magnitude 3.9 at 7:48 pm (00.48 GMT) on Wednesday, May 23, in the province of Cañete, located in the south of the Lima region.
The fourth of magnitude 3.5 at 02h30 local time (07.30 GMT), in the city of Tacna, in the southern region of the same name.
The fifth of magnitude 3.7 at 05:03 local time (10.03 GMT), in the city of Palpa, located in the southern region of Ica.
Earthquakes are very common in Peru because of the country’s location in the Ring of Fire, which is a large area in the Pacific Ocean that registers about 85% of all of the seismic activity in the world.
