Currently, the global news publishing industry continues to experience a long-term contraction; due to the large-scale growth of digital media platforms that offer instant information to everyone in real time, said Gestión yesterday.
This media believes that by 2022, Peru would rise in the region as the country with the highest growth in digital news circulation, in spite of the contraction, according to information they cite from the Global Entertainment & Media Outlook study, conducted by PwC.
“Between 2013 and 2017, the global industry lost more than $13 billion US dollars in newspaper sales revenues, almost 10% of total revenues”, Gestión informed. “However, in the case of Peru, the sector grew by 0.6% year-on-year in 2017, reaching $860 US million dollars”, they added.
In spite of this, it is expected that advertising in news media will have an annual fall of 1.1% by 2022 in the country. In the case of printed newspapers, an annual decline of 1.3% expected as well. “Meanwhile, digital platforms would increase their advertising revenues in the same period by 6.8%, going from $5 million to $7 million US dollars”, according to Gestión.
As for mobile devices, they are becoming more and more important for advertisers. This has made 2018 the first year in which mobile Internet advertising revenues exceed their cable equivalent in Peru.
